At Goodtime Adventures, we combine classroom learning with real hands-on training aboard our custom-built speedboat — giving you the skills, confidence, and control to take the helm in any conditions.
It’s a hands-on two-day course that teaches you how to safely operate small powerboats. You’ll learn launch, recovery, navigation, and diver pickup techniques under BSAC-certified instructors. Learn more about BSAC’s international training standards on the official BSAC website.
No. Anyone over 16 can enroll, whether or not you’re a diver. The course is suitable for dive professionals, boat crew, photographers, or anyone interested in seamanship.
Goodtime Adventures is the only center on Koh Tao offering official BSAC Boat Handling and Diver Coxswain training using a custom-built speedboat instead of converted fishing boats.
After completing the BSAC Boat Handling Course, you’ll be certified to helm powerboats up to 10 meters in coastal waters. The certification is MCA-approved and recognized internationally, equivalent to RYA Powerboat Level 1.
It’s the final step in BSAC’s boat training pathway, assessing your practical and theoretical skills in voyage planning, safety, and emergency procedures. Successful candidates earn the BSAC Diver Coxswain qualification (equivalent to RYA Level 2).
The combined package — Boat Handling, Post-Workshop, and Coxswain Assessment — takes around 4–5 days, depending on group size and conditions.
Courses are available year-round, weather permitting. Spaces are limited to three students per instructor, so advance booking is highly recommended.

The people at Goodtime Adventures are not only incredibly knowledgeable about the world of diving but also so warm and welcoming, and it was for those reasons that I signed up with them for my Open Water Course! Lydia was an amazing instructor - an expert at breaking down learning materials into clear concepts and giving helpful feedback so that I could improve as a diver. She was so encouraging and ultimately helped me gain the confidence to become a competent diver and I’m so thankful!! 100% recommend! Just finished my Basic Diving course with Lydia as my instructor. She was patient, alert and gave good feedback but more than that she was clearly passionate about it and it was contagious. I couldn't have asked for more as my first dive ever!
