Koh Tao Climbing Guidebook

200+ routes across granite cliffs, mountain tops, lowland boulders, and jungle rock. Two guides — one free, one comprehensive.

Goodtime has been developing climbing on Koh Tao since 2008. What started with a handful of routes on the granite cliffs above Mae Haad has grown into one of the most varied climbing areas in Southeast Asia — 200+ routes spread across three main areas and a collection of boulder problems that rewards anyone willing to explore beyond the rock walls.

The terrain here is genuinely varied. You can top-rope on seaside cliffs in the morning, work a technical boulder problem in the jungle in the afternoon, and watch the sunset from a mountain-top that looks out over the Gulf of Thailand. Two guidebooks cover it all — a free PDF co-created with climbing pioneer James March, and the Rakkup digital guide which is the most up to date resource available.

What you'll find on Koh Tao

Mountain top walls

Exposed granite walls at elevation with views across the Gulf of Thailand. Some of the longest routes on the island and the best sunsets.

Seaside cliffs

Granite sea cliffs directly above the water. A thrilling place to climb — accessible, well-bolted, and with the ocean directly below.

Lowland boulder fields

A network of boulder problems in the flat areas between the hills. Technical, varied, and largely shaded — a good option in the middle of the day.

Jungle rock walls

Problems and short routes tucked into the jungle interior. Where most people first climb on the island — the approach is part of the experience.
