Known for Granite Boulders
Tanote Bay is a scenic east coast dive site featuring large granite boulders, coral gardens, and excellent visibility during calm conditions.

Tanote Bay is located on Koh Tao’s east coast and is known for its distinctive granite boulder formations, coral gardens, and clear water. The site offers a different underwater landscape from many of the island’s western dive sites.
The shallow bay provides excellent snorkeling opportunities, while divers can explore deeper boulder formations and rocky outcrops further from shore. Large schools of reef fish often gather around the structures, creating vibrant underwater scenes.
Conditions are generally best during the island’s calm season, when visibility can be exceptional. The combination of dramatic underwater topography and healthy marine life makes Tanote Bay a favorite among photographers and explorers.
The site is suitable for beginners in calm conditions but can experience stronger surge and waves during certain times of year.
Oct–Nov: Northeast monsoon season. The site is still diveable but surface conditions can be rough and visibility reduced.
