Buoyancy World

Buoyancy World isn’t a site divers typically visit for the marine life or the topography — it’s a site built around what its name promises. A flat, sandy bottom at a consistent, shallow depth makes it close to ideal for practising the buoyancy and trim skills that underpin every other part of diving, free from the distractions of a busy reef or challenging terrain.

The site is regularly used during the Buoyancy specialty course and as a supplementary stop during Open Water and Advanced training, where instructors can isolate buoyancy practice from the rest of a dive without students needing to manage navigation or marine life observation at the same time. The calm, predictable conditions mean a diver’s attention can stay entirely on breath control, weighting, and body position.

While it lacks the dramatic scenery of sites like Chumphon Pinnacle or White Rock, Buoyancy World serves a genuinely valuable purpose. Divers who spend real time here working on trim and control routinely notice the difference on every subsequent dive — better air consumption, less effort moving through the water, and far less accidental contact with the reef. It’s an unglamorous site that quietly makes every other dive on Koh Tao better.
