Conservation isn’t a program at Goodtime. It’s part of how the business has run since 2008 — in the water, on the beach, and in the community.

Practical, not performative

our approach

Healthy reefs are what make diving on Koh Tao worth doing. Without them, there’s no marine life to identify, no dive sites worth visiting, and no reason for most people to come to this island in the first place. That’s not a complicated argument — it’s just honest about what’s at stake.

Goodtime’s conservation work is practical and ongoing. Weekly dive site and beach cleanups, marine education built into every course, responsible diving practices enforced regardless of certification level, and long-term partnerships with organisations doing meaningful work on the island.

SSI Blue Oceans Center

SSI Blue Oceans
Goodtime is an official SSI Blue Oceans partner center — a program dedicated to ocean conservation education. Blue Oceans membership means conservation is formally integrated into how courses are taught, not an optional extra.

Koh Tao Single Use Plastic MOU

MOU Signatory
A signatory to the Koh Tao: Say NO to Single Use Plastic MOU with the Surat Thani Provincial Government — one of a small number of businesses on the island that has made this formal commitment at a government level.

Green Fins Silver Member

Green Fins Silver

Green Fins is the only environmental standard for the dive industry. Silver Member means we have met verified standards for responsible operations, waste management, and dive practice. The assessment covers everything from anchor use and briefings to waste and chemical handling.

Several staff members also hold individual Green Fins Dive Guide certification, recognising their personal commitment to responsible practice in the water.

Thai DMCR Coral Restoration

DMCR Certified

Goodtime’s head instructor holds official certification from Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources to conduct coral restoration work. To legally touch or transplant coral in Thai waters you must complete this specialised government training — it’s one of the more meaningful certifications in Thai marine conservation and not widely held.

The DMCR works with local dive centers to ensure coral reef repairs follow strict government guidelines.

What we actually do

Conservation in practice

Save Our Seas - weekly cleanups

Every Saturday morning Goodtime runs a beach and reef cleanup. No dive cert required for the beach portion. Certified divers join the underwater team. Equipment provided, participants welcome back at the beach club afterward.

Annual birthday cleanup — every February

Every February, on Goodtime's company birthday, we run one of the largest single cleanup events on Koh Tao. The whole team, the whole community, and anyone who wants to join — in the water and on the beach for a full day.

Marine education in every course

Responsible diving practices, marine life identification, and reef ecology are part of every SSI course Goodtime runs. Not a separate module — woven into the training from the first dive.

Single use plastic — MOU signatory

Goodtime is a signatory to the Koh Tao: Say NO to Single Use Plastic MOU with the Surat Thani Provincial Government — a formal commitment to eliminating single-use plastic across the business.
