Overview

Rock 2 is where climbers stop following and start leading. The course builds directly on the skills from Discover Rock Climbing, introducing lead climbing technique, clipping sequences, fall practice, and the process of cleaning and lowering from a sport anchor. It’s a significant step up in both skill and mindset — leading a route demands a different kind of focus than following, and the course is designed to develop both.

A substantial part of the day is dedicated to problem-solving on the wall. Real climbs don’t always unfold as planned — bolts end up in awkward positions, anchors vary from crag to crag, and situations arise mid-route that require calm decision-making under a degree of physical stress. Rock 2 addresses this directly, working through scenarios that go beyond the textbook so you’re prepared for what climbing actually looks like rather than just the ideal version of it.

By the end of the course you’ll be able to independently prepare, lead, and clean a sport route at Koh Tao’s crags without an instructor above you. That independence is the point — Rock 2 is what makes you a climber rather than someone who climbs with supervision.

Course Highlights

Fall Practice is Part of the Programme

Learning to lead means learning to fall safely — this course dedicates time to fall technique so you can climb with confidence rather than anxiety.

Problem Solving on the Wall

Real climbs don't always go to plan — the course specifically covers unfinished climbs, unexpected anchor setups, and decision-making mid-route.
