BSAC Post Boat Handling Workshop

The Boat Handling course teaches you the fundamentals. The Post Boat Handling Workshop is where those fundamentals start to feel automatic.

The assessment for the Diver Coxswain qualification requires a minimum of five logged helm hours. This workshop is how most students build that time — in structured sessions on Goodtime’s speedboat, working through the specific skills the Coxswain assessment covers. High and low speed manoeuvres, approach and recovery, anchoring, diver pickup, emergency responses. All of it in real conditions in the water around Koh Tao.

The workshop isn’t simply repetition. The instruction is tailored to where each student actually needs work — if your low-speed handling is confident but your approach to a mooring needs attention, that’s where the time goes. Matthew reviews your technique after each exercise and adjusts the session accordingly.

The result is a student who arrives at the Coxswain assessment having genuinely consolidated the course material rather than just having completed it. The pass rate reflects that — students who complete the workshop are better prepared than those who proceed straight from the Boat Handling course.

The maximum group size for this workshop is two students. Most of the session is on the water.
